Basic Strategy for Chip No. 2

Here are a couple of suggestions that should get you thinking the right way when you are out on the course. When you are sizing up a Chip No. 2, take into account the following factors:

1. How far can you run the ball? Always run the ball as much as you can since this is the easiest way to control the shot

2. Next, how far do you have to carry the ball to the green? (You always want to land the ball on the green because it is easier to predict how the ball will react)

3. How fast will the ball run when it hits the green and in what direction? Take into account the break because when the ball is rolling it will run like a putt

4. Pick the club that gives you the balance of air time and roll you need to execute your plan

Note

If you cannot land the ball on the green and you cannot putt or use Chip No. 1, then take a club that will give the ball enough momentum to go through the fringe or fairway.
