To begin learning Chip No.3, you do not need to hit to a green.
You need your sand wedge, ten balls and your umbrella (or another club) to aim at.
This game will teach you how to judge the speed and flight of these high, soft shots.
Put your umbrella on the grass about 10-12 paces away from you. The idea of the game is to pitch the balls over the umbrella but to land as close to it as possible. The umbrella serves to mark the edge of the green. Imagine that you are hitting over a bunker so that if you are short of the umbrella you have hit your ball into the bunker. Your goal is to experiment with Chip No.3 and to build up confidence in your technique.
