You are out on the course playing against your friends on a beautiful Saturday morning. Life is great. You are winning on all the bets and are playing the best round of your life.

Then suddenly you drive deep into the woods, make a double bogey and play poorly for the rest of the day. How can this happen? Why are you so inconsistent? These are the questions that I will answer for you in this section.

The Goal

If your swing feels like an impenetrable maze of swing thoughts, ideas and quick tips picked up from friends and books, then you and I have some work to do.

What is it that you are missing?

Together, we will find the answers to your questions. By working through the information in the Instructions section you will be able to develop a more consistent technique.

A Word of Warning!

Before you leap into the instructions or lessons, I would like to take the opportunity to talk to you about how you use the information provided. There is definitely a danger of trying to do too much too quickly.

If you were having a lesson from me at my Golf Club I would start you off with an exercise to correct your main areas of weakness. I would check your grip, your address, your alignment and your ball position before I spoke to you about the motion of your golf swing.I would not give you further information until you have understood the fundamentals.

However, you are now administering your own medicine. Please be careful that you do not overdose and create more problems for yourself.

Sensible Practice

To use this section in the most efficient manner, you must plan your progress. First read through the section on the Fundamentals. Always check your fundamentals against any other information in the instructions. If you find an error then your first goal must be to correct your basics.

Once this is instinctive, read on to learn about the swing motion. Start from the ¼ Swing, then move on to the ½ Swing, the ¾ Swing and finally the Full Swing.

If you think that you can benefit by practicing the exercises of the various sections then that is your next goal. Build slowly but permanently and you will become a consistently better player.

By blending the instructions with the games that can be found in Games to Improve Your Swing, you will be able to combine mechanics and the feeling for motion.

Go to the range with a plan and stick to it. If you are working on your takeaway, it does not make sense to panic about your impact position. Take your time; make lots of practice swings to feel the motion before you hit a ball.

Good practice makes you improve.

Building Consistency

For you to become a better player, no matter what your current level of play, you must begin to eliminate the manipulations that occur during your swing. You need to develop a swing motion that creates a consistent shot pattern.

A good golf swing still works when your timing is off. A poor golf swing only works when your timing is perfect.

You can learn how to correct errors in your golf swing by working on the exercises in the instructions. Check up on your fundamentals to learn which areas of your golf swing are creating your problems.

Practice one idea 1000 times - not 1000 ideas once!
