Clearing Up the Takeway

Img_4756

Photo 1 - Wrong!

In this photo I am too wide with my arms and my body has over rotated with no hip resistance.

My hands are way outside my right foot and this kind of takeaway leads to a long loose swing when the body and arm never really coordinate properly.

Photo 2 - Wrong!

In this picture I have picked the clubhead up from the ball and now my left shoulder and knee will collapse which will make my swing steep and armsy.

My hands are much too high and my arms are now folding up.

Photo 3 - Correct!

This should be what you are looking for in this takeaway position.

Here I am focusing on resisting my body and allowing my left arm to rotate away from the ball. You may feel that club head sweep away from the ball but don’t let your right arm come away from your side.

A good check point is that by the time the shaft is parallel to the ground your hands should be over your right foot.

If you can get a good set up and good takeaway you are well on your way to becoming a consistent ball stricker.
