Swing Finish – Face On

S_40

The ½ swing is now completed. Look at the photos and study the points I am explaining to you. If you can work these thoughts into your game you will hit straighter shots.

1. Just as the club shaft and my left arm formed a 90 degree angle in the backswing, the same is true of my club shaft and my right arm in the finish.

From impact through to the finish position there should be an active rehinging of the wrists. It should feel very snappy and you should feel that this rehinging is the most aggressive and fastest part of your golf swing

2. I spoke to you about the folding of the left elbow when you and I were working on the ¼ swing. This motion is now completed by the finish of the ½ swing. My left elbow is snug against my left side and my right arm is extended out in front of my chest

3. Look at how my right shoulder has turned through impact so that it is over my left toe. This turning motion is very important. The left side must clear so that the right side has room to release.

Also notice how I maintain the angle of my shoulders as I turn. You should feel that your right side stays level as you turn through to face the target

The reaction of my legs and hips to this motion is interesting. You can see how my left leg has braced against the turning motion of my arms and upper body. The weight of my body always stays on the inside of my left foot. My right leg is now being pulled through by the momentum of the clubhead being swung through the ball.

Remember that an over-active lower body puts your arms and upper body out of balance and out of position. My right foot has rolled onto the instep because of the momentum of the swinging arms and turning torso
