Introduction to Full Swing

Basic Elements of the Full Swing

A good golf swing consists of many moving parts all working together as a unit. Before you start analysing your swing motion, I want to explain to you the basic elements that make a golf swing work.

First of all, let us think about impact. What must happen for the ball to fly straight at the target? A straight shot occurs when the clubface meets the ball in a position that is exactly at right angles to the target line. The club must also be moving along the target line at impact for the ball to start straight. How does this position come about and how do you repeat this position? This is the question that will be explored in this lesson. You must find out why your golf swing does not produce this impact position.

Power

The impact position deals with the accuracy of your shots. Let us now look at the production of power. When a boxer hits his opponent with a knock-out punch, he has timed his body mass and his glove to generate the most power at a precise point. That is the key to golf!

Power and Accuracy

Everybody has different potentials in golf. We are made up with varying amounts of strength, speed, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and general athletic ability. No matter. The key is to find the best available combination of power and accuracy for your individual skills. I will show you how you can reach your potential on the golf course. Your part of the bargain is to do plenty of sensible practice.

This, then, is our goal for the full swing. To find a swing motion that produces a consistent shape at impact and generates the maximum blend of power and accuracy.

Use Building Blocks

This chapter entails many different topics and I hope you will have a clear plan of how you go about improving your golf game. The full swing is the end result of building up from the basics and learning how your golf swing should feel. Keep it simple and build slowly. Practise hard and I know you will become a better golfer
