The Driver

S_61

Every golfer in the world wants to hit longer and straighter drives. I wish I could give you the magic formula that would make your dreams come true. The only thing I can do is to show you the correct set up and you must improve your technique so that you can make more solid contact at impact.

The driver must be swung at the ball in such a manner that the ball is struck at the flat spot or slightly on the upswing of the arc of the club.

Put the ball in line with your left armpit at address to start with. You can push it forward slightly more than that and you are free to experiment as you wish. Drop your right shoulder down closer to the ground and keep 60% of your weight on your right foot at address.

As you play the shot, try to explode your arms and shoulders slightly upwards through impact. You should definitely have the feeling that the weight of the club swinging through the ball pulls the weight of your body off your right side.

Finding Extra Yards

If you feel that a few extra yards could make a big difference to your game then try this set up position.

Stand with your right foot significantly dropped back behind you so that your upper body twists around into a shut position. Keep the rest of your address position the same as you and I have just discussed.

Make your normal full backswing and, as you start down to the ball, you should think about rotating your arms and rehinging your wrists as aggressively as you can in the follow through. This will promote a flatter flight that will have some draw spin. This type of shape will run further and allow you to reach your maximum distance potential. It is either this address position or a serious session with the weights. I think that you will agree with me that it would be wise to test out this address position before you did anything as rash as weight training!

I want to spark your imagination in this Games Section. You must find games that allow you to practise the areas of your game needing the most work.
