Address in Bunker Shots

As I said earlier, finding the right address position is an art. Watch any golf tournament and you will see the tour players shuffling around to find the address position that allows them the correct angle of attack for the shot that confronts them.

Have a look at the following guide lines and use the information to develop your knowledge of all the options available to you.

Lower Body

Use your legs to anchor yourself into the sand.

Too much motion in your legs will create inconsistencies in your swing motion.

Your stance should be shoulder width apart and you should have plenty of flex in your knees and hips.

I feel that I am sitting down in my legs and staying tall in my shoulders and chest.

Weight Distribution

To hit down onto the sand you need a steep angle of attack.

To help you achieve this, you should have more weight on your left foot at address.

For a basic bunker shot from a good lie, you should have 60% of your weight on your left foot and 40% on your right foot.

By pushing your weight even further forward, you create a steeper angle of attack.

Experiment by trying different address positions but always try to keep your weight forward of the ball at address unless the situation demands otherwise.
