Nothing much happened in Simon's life until he was 7, when he picked up a golf club. (He thinks it was a No 7 iron.) During the next 10 years, golf took over, as it does, and by his late teens he was playing in tournaments all over Europe. His early successes brought an invitation to join one of America's finest golf programmes at Wake Forest University, North Carolina.
Two years later, he broke his wrist while competing for the British Amateur Title. In some ways, it was a lucky break. After 2 years of surgery and rehabilitation, Simon took lessons from David Leadbetter and discovered his aptitude for teaching. David invited Simon to join as a teacher and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands (and a suspect wrist). His main role was to coach and advise the European Tour Players and in 1992 he taught 4 of the top 5 players on the Order of Merit, his players winning 12 European tournaments and one major.
Following the success of his star pupils, Simon set up his own golf academy. In its first year, Simon taught 4 members of the European Ryder Cup Team and his players won 8 international titles. He now drives, chips and putts his way around the world, teaching star professionals and enthusiastic amateurs. Simon and his staff could teach you.
